About Grace Nakamura: Grace Nakamura has led with many accomplishments, in martial arts, music and acting in commercials and such movies as Three Men and a Baby. However nothing has ever competed with her first love of pocket billiards! The game was truly in her blood as she was even married in the Samuel Maye Room at the Academy for Spherical Arts in Toronto, Ontario and there are pictures of her shooting a game in her wedding dress to prove it.
Grace first discovered this skill testing game of advanced physics and geometry at age fourteen and was forever captured by the games challenge and elegance. She played consistently as her life unfolded and at only twenty-two years of age she decreed a lifetime commitment to only accept means of employment that afforded her the time and resources to pursue the love of her life, Billiards!
Grace's skill level constantly rose with her commitment through each level of game achievement from avid player, Certified Instructor, Certified Referee, to high ranking amateur and then in 1995 with twenty-three years of competition experience Grace turned pro. Grace Nakamura holds the honoured distinction of becoming the first professionally carded female Billiard Competitor in Canada.
Grace met the riggers of the professional tour circuit with enthusiasm and reasonable success and has won many titles in Snooker and 9 Ball but as time wore on the pursuit of the mere win lost its luster. Grace began to see the sport and her place in it, in a very different light. She felt a dynamic responsibility to the game as a growing sport itself! Grace realized there are significant developments on the horizon for the Sport of Billiards and she wanted to be more than just a competitor but a facilitator of the growth and advancement of her sport. So, in 1998 she semi-retired from traveling the Pro Tournament Tour to devote herself to the full time career of promoting the Sport of Billiards and teaching the skillful artistry of her first Love.
Today, Grace is a Billiard Professional with a vision for the future of the sport and a grass roots understanding of how it will develop beyond current status and expectations. She has a hands-on approach to Education and a model for strong Foundation Building in amateur ranks that can bring unprecedented growth. She is a promoter of goodwill and sportsmanship as well as has been presenting Billiards Clinics, Skill Challenges, Demonstrations and Competitions throughout Southern Ontario. Grace is also an empowering motivational speaker at corporate functions and Billiard oriented team-building clinics.
